Properties: Hygroscopic crystals, bitter taste. Slightly sol in ether and chloroform. A 1% aq soln is alkaline to phenolphthalein and has a pH between 8.5 and 9.5. Unbuffered aq solns are unstable. LD50 orally in rats: 130 mg/kg (Hendrix).
