Properties: Blue-green, monoclinic crystals with iridescent sheen. d 3.79. mp 894°. Sparingly sol in water; practically insol in alcohol; sol in boiling HCl; not attacked by hot dil H2SO4 or HNO3. Changes to Cr2O3 when heated in air.

Density: d 3.79
Use: In chromizing; in catalytic cracking of hydrocarbons; alkylation catalyst; in nuclear reactor fuels.
