Literature References: A polymer of anetholesulfonic acid. Originally developed as an anticoagulant, it was soon found that it possesses anticomplement action and lowers the bactericidal action of blood. Ref: Demole, Reinert, Arch. Exp. Pathol. Properties: Light brown powder. Insol in alcohol. Swells in water and slowly goes in soln with neutral reaction. Aq solns are stable to heat, dil alkalies and dil acids.
Use: To inhibit blood coagulation in vitro, and as diagnostic reagent to encourage the growth of pathogens in blood. To stabilize colloidal solns such as milk and gelatin.
