Properties: White or almost white, odorless, hygroscopic, granular powder; sharp, saline taste; becomes brown on exposure to air and light, due to liberation of iodine. d25 4.74; mp ~446°; bp ~625° with decompn. One gram dissolves in 0.3 ml water, 0.2 ml boiling water, 2 ml glycerol; freely sol in alcohol, ether. The aq soln is acid to litmus; pH about 5. Keep well closed and protected from light.
