Properties: White crystals or granules. Loses its water at about 120°. d 1.82. Sol in about 3 parts cold water, 1.5 parts boiling water; insol in alcohol. The aq soln is slightly alkaline to litmus, pH 7 to 9.

Use: Dihydrate as standard for standardizing Karl Fischer reagent (determination of water).
Therap-Cat: Cathartic.
