Cyclocondensation of 4-azido-3-nitrobenzoic acid (I) in boiling toluene yielded the benzoxadiazol system (II). Subsequent treatment with thionyl chloride gave acid chloride (III), which was finally condensed with n-butylamine to furnish the corresponding amide.
