Fluorenone-4-carboxaldehyde (II) was obtained by reduction of acid chloride (I). Subsequent Hantzsch synthesis using allyl acetoacetate (III) and ammonium hydroxide in boiling isopropyl alcohol provided the title dihydropyridine.
