Fedotozine (-)-tartrate can be prepared by two different methods: a) Conventional resolution in ethanol of racemic (?-N,N-dimethyl-1-[(3,4,5-trimethoxybenzyl)oxymethyl]-1-phenyl-n-propylamine with (-)-tartaric acid. b) Condensation of (+)-2-dimethylamino-2-phenyl-n-butanol (I) with 3,4,5-trimethoxybenzyl chloride (II) gives (+)-N,N-dimethyl-1-[(3,4,5-trimethoxybenzyl)oxymethyl]-1-phenyl-n-propylamine, which is salified with (-)-tartaric acid in ethanol to give fedotozine (-)-tartrate.
