The dichloroplatinum(II) complex (II) is synthesized by reacting K2PtCl4 with meso-1,2-bis(2,6-dichloro-4-hydroxyphenyl)ethylenediamine (I) in tert-BuOH / H2O or DMF / H2O at pH 5-6 and temperature below 40 C. The corresponding sulfatoplatinum(II) complex D-19384 is obtained by addition of Ag2SO4 to a suspension of the dichloro complex (II) in H20 at 40 C.

meso-1,2-Bis(2,6-dichloro-4-hydroxyphenyl)ethylenediamine (I) is svnthesized by [3.3]sigmatropic diaza-Cope rearrangement according to the method of V鰃tle and Goldschmitt by reaction of meso-1,2-bis(2-hydroxyphenyl)ethylenediamine (IV) with 2,6-dichloro-4methoxybenzaldehyde (V) at temperature below 120 C via the corresponding aldimine (VI) and subsequent ether cleavage with boron tribromide.
