Resorcinol Monoacetate
(re sor' si nol mon'' oh as' e tate).
C8H8O3 152.15

1,3-Benzenediol, monoacetate.
Resorcinol monoacetate [102-29-4].
Packaging and storage— Preserve in tight, light-resistant containers.
Identification—
A: Fuse 3 drops with about 300 mg of phthalic anhydride and about 50 mg of zinc chloride: a small portion of the fused mixture when dissolved in 10 mL of 1 N sodium hydroxide produces an intense yellow-green fluorescence typical of fluorescein.
B: Dissolve 0.5 mL in 3 mL of alcohol, add 3 drops of sulfuric acid, and boil: ethyl acetate, recognizable by its odor, is evolved.
Specific gravity 841: between 1.203 and 1.207.
Acidity— A solution of 10 mL of Resorcinol Monoacetate in 20 mL of benzene, when shaken with 100 mL of water, requires not more than 0.50 mL of 0.10 N sodium hydroxide for neutralization, methyl orange TS being used as the indicator.
Loss on drying 731 Dry it on a steam bath for 1 hour: it loses not more than 2.5% of its weight.
Residue on ignition 281: not more than 0.1%.
