Tetramethylsilane (CH3)4Si = 88.23 (75-76-3)

Spectroscopic reagent grade of commerce.

A colourless liquid; bp2013_v5_47_1003_[appendix_i_a]_t_ep7-7_ep_revised_texts d_20_20.png, about 0.64; bp2013_v5_47_1003_[appendix_i_a]_t_ep7-7_ep_revised_texts n_20_d.png, about 1.358; boiling point, about 26°.

When used in nuclear magnetic spectrometry, complies with the following test.

Nuclear magnetic resonance In the NMR spectrum of a 10% v/v solution of the reagent being examined in deuterochloroform, the intensity of any foreign signal, excluding those due to spinning side bands and to chloroform, is not greater than the intensity of the 13C-satellite signals located at a distance of 59.1 Hz on each side of the principal signal of tetramethylsilane.
