Potassium Hydroxide VS, Ethanolic

Potassium Hydroxide VS, Ethanolic Alcoholic potassium hydroxide

For a 0.01m solution Dilute 2.0 mL of 0.5m ethanolic potassium hydroxide to 100.0 mL with aldehyde-free ethanol (96%).

For a 0.1m solution Dissolve 6 g of potassium hydroxide in 50 mL of water and dilute to 1000 mL with aldehyde-free ethanol (96%).

Ascertain its exact concentration immediately before use in the following manner. Titrate 20 mL of the solution with 0.1m hydrochloric acid VS using 0.5 mL of phenolphthalein solution as indicator. Each mL of 0.1m hydrochloric acid VS is equivalent to 5.611 mg of KOH.

For a 0.5m solution Dissolve 3 g of potassium hydroxide in 5 mL of water and add sufficient aldehyde-free ethanol (96%) to produce 100 mL. Allow the solution to stand for 24 hours and decant the clear solution.

Ascertain its exact concentration in the following manner. Titrate 20 mL of the solution with 0.5m hydrochloric acid VS using 0.5 mL of phenolphthalein solution as indicator. Each mL of 0.5m hydrochloric acid VS is equivalent to 28.06 mg of KOH.

Store in a well-closed container protected from light.
