Dimethyl Sulphoxide C2H6OS  =  78.1 (67-68-5)

Analytical reagent grade of commerce.

A colourless liquid; boiling point, about 189°; bp2010_v4_02_03_appendix_i_1a_d n_20_d.png, about 1.479; bp2010_v4_02_03_appendix_i_1a_d d_20_20.png, about 1.10.

Complies with the following test.

Water Not more than 1.0% w/v, Appendix IX C.

Dimethyl sulphoxide used in spectrophotometry complies with the following requirement.

Transmittance Not less than 10% at 262  nm, 35% at 270  nm, 70% at 290  nm and 98% at 340  nm and at higher wavelengths using water in the reference cell.
