Ferroin Solution

Ferroin Solution (14634-91-4)

Tris(1,10-phenanthroline)iron(ii) sulphate complex prepared in the following manner. Dissolve 0.7  g of iron(ii) sulphate and 1.76  g of phenanthroline hydrochloride in 70  ml of water and add sufficient water to produce 100  ml.

Complies with the following test.

Sensitivity to cerium(iv) Add 0.1  ml of the solution and 0.15  ml of osmium tetroxide solution to 50  ml of 1m sulphuric acid. Add 0.1  ml of 0.1m ammonium cerium(iv) nitrate. The colour changes from red to light blue.
