Sodium Hydroxide Solution, Carbonate-free Dissolve sodium hydroxide  R in carbon dioxide-free water  R to give a concentration of 50% w/v and allow to stand. Decant the clear supernatant liquid, taking precautions to avoid the introduction of carbon dioxide.
