Literature References: A non-heme, oxygen-carrying protein found in members of four invertebrate phyla: sipunculids, polychaetes, priapulids and brachiopods. Oxygenated form is called oxyhemerythrin. Isoln from the sipunculid, Golfingia goldii (or Phascolosoma goldii): Klotz et al., Arch. Biochem. Biophys. 68, 284 (1957). Consists of eight subunits, each containing two ferrous ions which form a complex with one molecule of oxygen: Klotz, Keresztes-Nagy, Biochemistry 2, 445, 923 (1963).
