Properties: White, amorphous powder, mp 145-150°. Soly in water about 200 mg/ml. Freely sol in alcohol; slightly sol in ether. pH of a 2% aq soln 6.0-7.5. A 5% stock soln can be prepd with water or glucose soln but not with NaCl isotonic soln, because NaCl at this concn precipitates erythromycin base. Lower concns of inorganic salts are compatible.
Melting point: mp 145-150°
