Literature References: A 1:1:1 mixture of ergocornine, ergocristinine, and ergocryptinine. Isomeric with the ergotoxine mixture, q.v. First reported by Tanret, Compt. Rend. 81, 891 (1875). Resolution into three alkaloids: Stoll, Hofmann, Helv. Chim. Acta 26, 1570 (1943).
Properties: Crystallizes solvent-free, unlike ergotoxine which tends to retain the solvent of crystn. Long prisms from acetone. mp 229° with decompn. [a]D20 +365° (c = 0.35 in chloroform). Very sol in chloroform. Sol in 25 parts acetone, 420 parts alcohol, 1000 parts abs ether.
Melting point: mp 229° with decompn
Optical Rotation: [a]D20 +365° (c = 0.35 in chloroform)
