Literature References: An extract of Digitalis purpurea L., Scrophulariaceae, once believed to be a single amorphous compd, is a stable, relatively constant mixture of digitoxin, gitoxin, q.q.v., and gitaloxin (16-formylgitoxin, Cristaloxine) with smaller amounts of several other glycosides and genins, together with minute amounts of other substances. Properties: Amorphous powder. Readily sol in alcohol, slightly (but slowly) sol in water. A satd aq soln has pH of about 7.0 and an intensely bitter taste. Ref: N.N.D. 1960, 301.
